Celebrate The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee 2022
How many years is the Queen's Platinum Jubilee?
In 2022, The Queen is set to become the first British Monarch ever to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee, that’s a whole 70 years of service! Her Majesty first took to the the throne on 6th February 1952 at just 25 years of age and celebrated her 95th birthday in 2021.
During 2022, The Queen plus other royal family members will travel around the country taking part in a host of different events to mark this historic occasion, but the main focus for all of us will be the big Platinum Jubilee Weekend in June.
What’s happening for the Jubilee weekend?
This summer, there will be an extended four day weekend bank holiday especially for the Jubilee to give us all a chance to celebrate with our friends, families, neighbours and communities. This will be from Thursday 2nd to Sunday 5th June. The Jubilee is a historic milestone not to be missed and sure to be remembered! The four day festivities will include all kinds of public events, gatherings, parties and community activities, to honour the Queen’s 70 year reign. Whether you’re a keen royalist or just looking for a reason to celebrate, there’s plenty of ways to get involved and party for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee!
Trooping the Colour
This is a big birthday parade for the Queen which takes place every year, an amazing spectacle of over a thousand marching soldiers. Featuring hundreds of horses and musicians in neat rows parading through the city, this event is definitely worth a trip to the centre of London to see! Starting at Buckingham Palace, the procession will march along the streets of the city, lined with crowds of people waving Union Jack flags. Members of the royal family will get involved at Horse Guards Parade, travelling in style in gold carriages and on horseback.
Thanksgiving Service
This event will give formal thanks to the Queen for her dedication and service. After all, she has spent most of her life serving as Queen for the country, and is now the longest serving female monarch in world history! Taking place in St. Paul’s Cathedral, you can tune in to watch the live TV coverage of the Thanksgiving service on the Friday daytime of the bank holiday weekend.
Lighting the Jubilee Beacons:
This is an age old tradition for the UK – similar to the Olympic flame symbolism. The lighting of the beacons - shining flames of light - are a way to honour Queen Elizabeth II far and wide. They are only ever lit on very special occasions; for Jubilees, Coronations and royal weddings of the Queen or King. The plan for the Platinum Jubilee is for 70 beacons to be lit in each county throughout the UK in a nationwide chain of lights to represent the seventy years of the Queen’s reign. There will also be beacons lit internationally, in the major cities of the Commonwealth countries. If you’re interested in taking part or want to go along to watch the event, remember to keep your eyes peeled for your local Jubilee beacon lighting in 2022.
Platinum Party at the Palace
If you remember the Diamond Jubilee Concert in 2012 or the Golden Jubilee Party at the Palace in 2002, you’ll be pretty familiar with this special live concert. Hosted by the BBC, the stage event features a line-up of iconic entertainment stars and music acts, much like a festival, from pop stars to rock bands and more. No one really knows yet who the performers or headliners will be for the Jubilee Party at the Palace, but legends Elton John and Stevie Wonder as well as Ed Sheeran have all been rumoured to be a part of the line-up. The concert takes place in the gardens of Buckingham Palace and the Queen is traditionally there to watch all the acts, along with other members of the royal family – including Charles & Camilla, William & Catherine.
If you’re not lucky enough to get to go to this exciting Platinum Jubilee event, the concert will be aired live on the BBC in the evening of 5th June. A great alternative is to set up a big screen - either indoors or outdoors if the weather is good- and watch the concert all together at a Jubilee BBQ or community get together. You can apply to go to the Platinum Party at the Palace very soon – everyone who does will be entered into a ballot for tickets - watch this space for details!
Platinum Jubilee Pageant
The Platinum Jubilee Pageant is rumoured to become the largest organised event in royal history. Over 5000 people are involved - not just from throughout Britain and the UK, but from the countries of the Commonwealth too. This will be a display like no other seen before, with music and street arts, theatre and circus, carnival and costume showcased in a magnificent parade and performance around the streets of Buckingham Palace.
The Big Jubilee Lunch 2022
Out of all the events taking place over the Jubilee bank holiday, this is the big one that everyone can get involved in!
Buckingham Palace is inviting everyone across the nation to get together in their communities and celebrate with “friendship, food and fun” – this means get together events throughout villages, towns and cities, from BBQ’s to picnics, street parties to tea in the garden with your neighbour, are actively encouraged, with high spirits all round! Parties in the park and organised events are scheduled to take place in every corner of the UK and there’s never been a better time to get involved in the festivities. Here’s how….

Here are our top 3 decorating themes for The Queen’s Jubilee.
Union Jack theme
Union Jack decorations are a staple for any Jubilee celebration! These patriotic decorations feature the Union Jack flag of the United Kingdom in colours, red, white and blue, a traditional choice for any royal Jubilee, wedding or coronation.
Jubilee flags & bunting:
Decorate the inside and outside of your venue with British flag bunting. Find different lengths to suit all kinds of spaces – from homes to pubs and bars, marquees to streets, parks and gardens. This cheerful decoration sets the scene in true British style for a picnic, BBQ or other event. With so many types of Union Jack bunting to choose from, when selecting your Jubilee decorations, it’s handy to consider the material you opt for – it may seem obvious but paper bunting is unlikely to hold up in the wind and rain! PVC bunting is a hard-wearing choice and good value comparatively. If you’re looking for the most eco-friendly choice, our paper bunting is likely the best option, but the unpredictable British summertime weather in June may call for something more durable. Union Jack fabric bunting is a good compromise. Like PVC bunting, it can be reused again and again for other national celebrations, including VE Day and international sporting events.
Union Jack flags are also a must-have for any street party or royal celebration. Hand-waving flags get everybody in high spirits and having some fun. Table flags are a great way to decorate a spread of Jubilee food and drink, whilst large cloth flags make a magnificent backdrop for all your celebrations.
Jubilee banners & posters:
At Party Packs, we’re proud to offer exclusively designed commemorative banners and posters for the Platinum Jubilee, featuring a photograph of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on a Union Jack background in red, white and blue. These decorations make a wonderful keepsake from the weekend of celebrations. Make them the focal point of your Jubilee party décor and co-ordinate them with other party supplies in patriotic colours.
Jubilee balloons:
Balloons are a great way to add dimension to any venue and transform your Jubilee celebration into a party! Decorate with red white and blue balloon bouquets and balloon arches with confetti balloons. Choose from Union Jack foil balloons in different shapes, or create your very own personalised photo balloon with your own message and picture printed on a background of the British flag.
Jubilee Logo theme
The official logo for the Platinum Jubilee will be displayed everywhere far and wide over the bank holiday weekend in June! The Jubilee logo was designed by the winner of a competition hosted by Buckingham Palace to create an emblem for the celebrations. It makes a great way to decorate for the upcoming royal events. At Party Packs, we’ve designed a stunning array of products and packs featuring the logo itself and its colours – explore royal purple, clean white and metallic silver decorations for a regal effect. Our glitter effect banners with lion and unicorn add a sense of occasion and sparkle to your celebration.
Royal theme
For a unique take on the Jubilee, decorate your party space in royal themed supplies and put the focus on The Queen herself. Our pack of four Queen Elizabeth II quotes posters display inspirational words from Her Majesty on colourful photographs of the Queen throughout her lifetime. Inflate an ‘EIIR’ balloon kit to create The Queen’s own royal cypher in metallic foil balloons. For a light-hearted spin on the celebrations, find giant photo stand-ins and lifesize cardboard cutouts of The Queen and other members of the royal family at Party Packs.
Tableware for The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee
Make decorating for your Jubilee street party a breeze with tableware packs to suit all numbers. Whether you’re catering for your next door neighbours or the entire street or village, find all the party supplies you need to serve up a delicious feast. Transform the length of your table with Jubilee tablecloths and table runners. Next lay out British flag printed plates, cups, napkins and cutlery in front of each seat. Serving platters are a great way to display the spread of food and invite your guests to help themselves to tasty sandwiches, nibbles and traditional treats. You can also use Union Jack flag menu cards to show the different food options available.
The next step is to accessorise your table. If there’s a seating plan for your Jubilee lunch, set out British flag placecards to let each person know where they’re sitting. You can add red, white and blue straws to your cups or glasses and even decorate them with miniature crown shaped glass decorations. Complete your table display with metallic confetti sprinkled along the centre.
Serving utensils, clamshell burger boxes and chip scoops are ideal for BBQ’s and food stalls whilst card lunch boxes and vintage style gingham pattern printed tablecovers spread out on the grass are perfect for a Jubilee picnic.
If the weather looks to be sunny, why not host a cake stand, afternoon tea or garden party outdoors? Set up fairy cakes in cake holders on red, white and blue tiered cake stands. Decorate them with Union Jack cupcake picks and Jubilee flag picks.
