50 years ago a man named Lewis Caroll created one of the most loved fictional characters to date, a girl named Alice. The story has stood the test of time, and we think an Alice in Wonderland themed party is still hard to beat. After all, who doesn't want to dive down the rabbit hole into Alice's world?
So whether you're thinking of throwing a Mad Hatter's Tea Party, celebrating your Unbirthday, or partying all night with Alice and the White Rabbit, we've got some great tips to make sure your event is a fantastical success.
Setting the Scene - Alice in Wonderland Party Ideas
Alice in Wonderland has to be one of the most visual stories ever told, and the films based on the book have definitely followed suit. It's a chance to get whimsical and creative with the décor, so take advantage!
For a Mad Hatter's Tea Party it's all about the table settings. Mix and match a few different themes to get that haphazard and off-kilter look. My favourites are the Truly Scrumptious range and the Porcelain Party Blue range, they'll look wonderfully mad together.
These mini teapot vases are great centrepieces, fill with seasonal flowers and dot about the tables and surfaces.
Pile the cakes high on the cake stands, sprinkle the tables with a few rose petals and these 'Eat Me' chocolates and Voilà! You've got yourself one stylish table arrangement.
For Mad Hatter décor I'd stick with pastel colours, with a few flashes of brights to catch the eye. This floral bunting is perfect, and it's made of fabric too so can be re-used!
String the bunting around the room or in the garden, and then add this beautiful paper rose garland, it's in keeping with the outdoor garden party feel, and will add a vintage touch to your event. Finish by hanging a few tissue pom-poms and lanterns to create an ethereal feel, and you'll have designed a tea party fit for the queen (of hearts).
And if it is more of a party with the Queen of Hearts you're going for, then I think flamingos and card suits are the way forward. No party is complete without a few balloons, and these suited ones are a must have:
Decorate the walls similarly, with big playing cards and heart decorations like this string decoration. I'd add a few big flower cut-outs and maybe a red rose or two scattered about to create the feel of the Queen's garden. And of course, don't forget the all important flamingos!
This is one of my favourite Queen of Hearts themed table settings, and it uses our card night tableware and heart centrepieces.
Alternatively, create your own - Pinterest, as always, has some great ideas - this one is beautiful and wouldn't be too hard to do, just attach some playing cards to a vase or pot, and tie ribbon around. If you're using white roses, don't forget to paint a few of them red!
Cover your bottle labels with these Alice in Wonderland themed ones to get everyone in the party mood!
Or for kids, create your own using these cute plastic milk bottles and straws!
Entertainment
Once you have the décor and table settings covered, it's time to think about entertaining your guests. Whether your event is aimed at adults or children, getting your guests to fashion their own Mad Hatter hat is a great party game. Pinterest has some great ideas to get you started - I think this one is perfect:
Start with one of our glitter top hats or mini top hats and get creative! You could add ribbon, feathers, playing cards, tissue flowers... anything you can think of! The guests get to wear their top hats during the party and take them home as a cute favour afterwards!
If you're event is outside then these big garden games are fantastic. The giant chess board is perfect for Alice in Wonderland, even when no-one's playing it looks great!
