Halloween Face Paint & Make Up Ideas
There is such a range of brilliant Halloween makeup and face paint ideas around, we thought we'd give you a few tips for the weird, wonderful and wacky to help you create your perfect Halloween look.
Classic Halloween looks include the Wicked Witch, recently popular again with the release of Disney's Maleficent with Angelina Jolie as the gothic inspired, horned evil queen from Sleeping Beauty. The Angelina Jolie version is a relatively simple vampish look, easily achieved with dark eyes and dark red lips with a white face. Or you can also use a purple and green palette for a more traditional witch/evil queen look. Use black contouring to achieve those famous sharp cheekbones and down the outside of the nose to make it more witch-like. You could also simply stick on some fangs for a vampire or Dracula look. A more modern take and, in my mind, more creepy look for Halloween is the doll look. Reanimated dolls in films are always terrifying such as Chucky in Child's Play, the clown doll in Poltergeist or the ridiculously scary doll from Annabelle. It's really easy look to pull off with large fake lashes (top and bottom) or with lashes drawn on with eyeliner, dotted cheeks, a little pink blusher (in a circle) and tiny red lips. Another idea is to create a more wooden doll/marionette/mannequin look with a fake wooden jaw/open mouth - easily created by extending the bottom lip on to the chin. A group of friends always get together night a week or so before Halloween to create our pumpkin masterpieces and what I lack in skill, I definitely make up for in enthusiasm! But last year I finally made a pumpkin I was proud off - it wasn't a traditional Halloween themed pumpkin, but a pretty firefly jar one I found online.
The first one is the original image I used for inspiration and the other two are my finished creations:

It was incredibly easy to do as you don't need to cut through the whole pumpkin except to create the holes in the jar and in the centre of the fireflies. You can just scrape a few layers off the outside of the pumpkin so the light glows through which means it's quite forgiving, unlike cutting where you need to be more precise. It's worth having a torch at hand to keep checking your progress to see how deep you need to go.
Previously I had always stuck with more traditional themes, which are probably more physically demanding i.e harder to cut through the whole pumpkin, but probably took about the same amount of time. Some of my most effective traditional pumpkin carving designs are below:
